Region: Russia
Period: 19th century
Size: 10 x 9,5 cm

Description

Mary holds Christ on her left arm. The ladder in front of her is a representation of the third stanza of the Akathistos Hymn: “Hail, heavenly ladder, by which God has descended, bridge that leads from earth to heaven.” Around the central representation we see an eight-pointed star and rose petals with angels and the symbols of the four evangelists. In the corners are four Old Testament visions connected to the Mother of God.
