Description

The iconography of the Hospitality of Abraham is a good example of how the essence of an icon can deviate from the original story.
In the Orthodox Church, this story of the visit of three men to Abraham is seen as foreshadowing the Trinity. Because God the Father was not allowed to be depicted in the early tradition of icons -one was only allowed to depict what was seen by human eyes- this story is used for the iconography of the Trinity.
