Description

This very rare variant of the Mother of God of the Eleousa/Umilenie type shows the Mother of God carrying the Christ Child on her right arm. Mother and child hold their faces together, the child shows the sole of his right foot. In icons of the Mother of God Hodegetria, the Christ Child often carries a scroll, here the Mother of God holds a closed scroll in her left hand.
