Description

On this icon John the Forerunner, the guardian angel and Nicholas are brought together. John the Forerunner is called John the Baptist in Western Christianity. He is always depicted in icons as a desert dweller, dressed in a camel hair robe and sandals. His hair and beard look disheveled. The guardian angel is depicted in the center, standing on a band of clouds. In his hands he carries a sword and a martyr’s cross. Nicholas can be seen on the right, wearing a bishop’s robe and stole and holding a Gospel Book.
