This icon of the Anastasis, the resurrection of Christ, depicts the Easter story in great detail. On the left are the Crucifixion and Entombment of Christ. In the center of the icon is Christ, who tramples down the gates of the realm of death and rescues Adam and Eve from the grave. Around them are several figures from the Old Testament. Bottom left, Christ stands above his tomb, the round stone has been rolled away. The icon depicts several events of the days after Easter, including the women visiting the empty tomb, the disciples at Emmaus and, very special, the Ascension of Christ in the top right corner.
