Description

According to tradition, the primordial icon of the Mother of God of Feodor was painted by the evangelist Luke. It is an icon of the Eleusa type (‘of the Tenderness’). The Mother of God holds the child on her right arm and points at him with the left arm. The cheeks of mother and child are pressed together. The facial expression of the Mother of God is loving but also sad, because of the inevitable suffering and death of her child.
