Description
This icon depicts the well-known story of Saint George and the dragon. The dragon was terrorising the city by demanding a maiden for his dinner every day. If the city did not provide the dragon with his meal, everything would be destroyed by fire. One day, fate decreed that it was the prince’s daughter’s turn to be sacrificed. George arrived and offered to help the prince by slaying the dragon. He instructed the princess to put a lead rope round the dragon’s neck. At that moment, George pierced the dragon with his lance and the town was saved.
